Two developers. One small town. One local fashion store that needed an online presence.
Vela Commerce began in 2018 in Højer — a quiet town of a few hundred people at the very southern tip of Denmark, just north of the German border. Two developers, working from home, with a simple first brief: build an online store for a local fashion boutique that was losing customers to bigger cities.
That first store worked. The boutique's owner sent us her accountant friend. Then a restaurant group. Then a furniture maker. Word moved faster than we expected in a small community, and within a year we had more work than two people could handle.
We moved to Copenhagen in 2020 — better infrastructure, more talent, bigger clients. The Vela name came with us. Vela is Latin for "sail": a sail doesn't fight the wind, it reads it and moves with it. That's how we think about eCommerce — finding the forces already at work in a business and building something that harnesses them rather than fighting them.
From Copenhagen, we grew further — New York, Amsterdam, Marbella. Today we are more than 26 talented professionals from across the globe, united by a determination to build digital commerce that exceeds what clients imagined was possible and drives revenue that changes what they can do next.
