Senior UX / Product Designer
Design commerce experiences that convert. You will own UX from research and wireframes through to production-ready Figma handoffs — working closely with engineering and client stakeholders.
About the role
You will be Vela's lead designer — the person who sets the visual and UX standard across our client work. This means running your own discovery process, producing wireframes and high-fidelity designs, presenting to clients, and working hand-in-hand with developers through implementation. You care deeply about conversion and usability, not just aesthetics. You will also contribute to our internal design system and help establish consistent design standards across the company.
What we're looking for
- 4+ years of UX/product design, ideally with eCommerce projects in your portfolio
- A portfolio that demonstrates the full design process — research through to shipped product
- Expert-level Figma — you work fast and keep files well-organised for developer handoff
- Experience designing for mobile-first, performance-sensitive contexts
- Familiarity with CRO principles and how design decisions affect conversion
- Confident presenting work to clients and incorporating feedback constructively
Nice to have
- +Motion design or micro-interaction experience
- +Understanding of Shopify theme architecture and its design constraints
- +Experience running usability testing sessions
- +Basic front-end knowledge (HTML/CSS) — enough to have informed conversations with developers
